It’s time for Part 2 of our interview with the social media, marketing, and brand strategist professional, Alexandra Ostrow! Alexandra created WhyWhisper Co. in order to help cause-based businesses and social ventures share their message through content on social media, and a variety of other very organic marketing strategies. An important first step to take with your cause-based marketing strategy is to focus on one, possibly two, social platforms at a time. Where is your Target Audience located? Listen to online communities to find out where your customers are interacting online, and who they are interacting with. Once you focus on building your content strategy with one platform, it can help to grow online presence with other communities and social medias as well. Listen in for some great tips from Alexandra and myself regarding the importance of online marketing strategies from our personal experiences!

1. What is a social venture that we all should checkout?

StandBuy.us - A Crowdfunding site for the cancer community, supporting individuals and their loved ones during cancer treatment.

1. What is your favorite online or offline resource/tool that all entrepreneurs should use?

Asana for Task Management and FreshBooks for financial management.

2. One piece of advice you would give to an aspiring change agent?

Believe in yourself and follow your gut. Large scale change starts with each of us as individuals and it sometimes can feel that you aren’t making headway, but you are! Know that the more change agents that are out there, the greater ability there is for us to create impact!

3. What is your favorite fun escape?

Taking time to play with my pets, and also escaping to the beach!

4. What is a caused based book we should all read?

A Path Appears -presents many non-profit and for profit ways of creating impact in story-telling form.

5. What is the first thing we can all do to start changing the word?

Find something you care about, start educating yourself obsessively and start talking about it.

There are many resources available to social entrepreneurs, but this is one of the best I have found. I am in the very early stages of a startup. Hearing from others that have already walked the path enlightens me and also reminds me that it can be done when things seem a bit overwhelming. I'm the founder of MADI Apparel - for every pair of underwear you buy, a pair is donated to a woman in need. We are new, we are growing, and we are attempting to spread as much awareness as possible about the need for underwear donations.
